Meet Alix
If you've found yourself here, you probably are looking for more information about me!
To start, I was born and raised Westminster, Maryland, a small town about 30 miles northwest of Baltimore. I grew up on the stage, competing in dance and cheerleading competitions until age sixteen. I attended Florida State University, earning two degrees in English- Editing, Writing and Media as well as German Language and Culture. In 2018, I spent a semester in Oldenburg, Germany, in a fully-immersive exchange program on the John and Ursula Simmons Scholarship. In college, I worked alongside the Florida State University College of Social Work to design and implement a comprehensive online course for parents of young children embarking on a separation or divorce. After editing and publishing the courses, I lobbied the Florida State House of Representatives to mandate this course for all families with young children in periods of separation. After my tenure with the College of Social Work, I accepted an internship with Home & Yard magazine as an Editorial Assistant. With Home & Yard, I had the opportunity to pitch articles, arrange interviews with community members, conduct research, draft text, edit copy, pitch and sell advertising campaigns, design advertisements, design mockups, print and deliver magazines to a readership of 100,000 households in the Greater Tallahassee Area. Aside from print publication, I contributed weekly to The Odyssey Online writing collective, a Greek-life oriented publication, as an external contributor. Upon graduation from Florida State University, I relocated back to Maryland in order to care for my father as he battled stage 4 laryngeal cancer and underwent a total laryngectomy. During my father's recovery, I began working at Unselds' School in Baltimore, MD as an executive assistant and later an educational assistant. Unselds' School allowed me to fine-tune my skills in technical writing, policy compliance, lesson design, and mass communications. My duties ranged from real estate acquisition management, renovation projects, personal finance management and recruiting to classroom management, lesson implementation, scholarship administration and disbursement, data entry and administrative management. Additionally, I was commissioned by the Unseld family to draft a short biography of NBA Hall-of-Famer, legendary player, coach, and manager Wes Unseld. This biography is currently displayed in the Capital One Area in Washington, DC on the first level concourse. Outside of writing, I compete in beauty pageants across the country. I held the title of Miss Finksburg Maryland USA 2021 in the Miss Maryland USA pageant, preliminary to Miss USA. I previously held the title of Miss Gulf Coast Petite 2022, Miss Atlantic Coast Petite 2023, and Miss Maryland Petite 2024. |
